The Detroit Section Society of Plastics Engineers Donates 30,000 toys to Detroit area kids
Detroit, MI.-With Christmas fast approaching, the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Detroit Section has coordinated an effort that will allow 30,000 toy “Plastivans” to reach children in the metropolitan Detroit area in time for the holidays. The Woodlands, Texas based Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, American Plastic Toys of Walled Lake, Michigan and Maple Press of Troy, have all collaborated together to make the toys available for distribution by the United Ways and Lions Club. Chevron donated 12,000 pounds of plastic, American Plastics Toys donated a week’s worth of production time to produce the toys and apply stickers that were donated buy Maple Press of Troy.
“This is a great effort by these companies to step up and make this generous donation,’ says Donald Root, president of Uniplas, Inc. of South Lyon, MI., and SPE Detroit Section member. “We are thankful to these companies and know it will create 30,000 smiles. This is a perfect example of SPE members working together to make a difference”.
There will be a formal donation ceremony on Friday December 4th at American Plastic Toys, 799 Ladd Road, Walled Lake, MI 48390 (248-624-4881) at 10:30 a.m.
