We proudly introduce 9 new SPE Honored Service Members, who are being recognized for their contributions to the Society. According to SPE Bylaws, “To be elected an Honored Service Member, a candidate shall have demonstrated long-term, outstanding service to, and support of, the Society and its objectives; shall be sponsored, in writing, by the Board of Directors of at least one Section or Division.” Only 271 members, counting these inductees, have been elected to this prestigious status since it was established in 1992. Sandra P. Davis
Member since 1983. Nominated by the Color & Appearance Division and affiliated with the Philadelphia Section. For her long-time service to the Color & Appearance Division (CAD), which she served in a variety of committee positions, and all officer positions, including  Chair. Sandra is recognized for the development of four financially and technically successful CAD conferences, which have enabled the Division to establish a scholarship program offering approximately $20,000/year in funding.
Jamal El-Hibri
Member since 1989. Nominated by the Southern Section and affiliated with the Engineering Properties & Structure Division. For his service to the Southern Section and the Society. Jamal served the Southern Section in a variety of roles, including President. He has coordinated conferences/mini-techs with three dfferent SPE Divisions, served as a member of the 1998 ANTEC General Operating Committee, and chaired the Section’s 50th Anniversary Celebration.
Dr. Lloyd A. Goettler
Member since 1974. Nominated by the Akron Section and affiliated with the Engineering Properties and Structure Division. For his long-time service to the Section, which he served as President; to the Division, which he served as Chair; and to the Society, which he has served in a variety of roles, including a 3-year term on the SPE Executive Committee. Lloyd initiated and served as the first chair of the New Technology Committee; founded and served as the first chair of the Thermoplastic Elastomers SIG; led the development of SPE’s 1985 Strategic Plan; and was Technical Program Chair for the 1981 ANTEC in Boston.
Dr. Dale A. Grove
Member since 1996. Nominated by the Composites Division and affiliated with the Ohio Firelands Section. For his service to the Division, which he has served in numerous positions, including Chair. Dale is recognized for his development of the “Members Only Hands-on Workshops” the Division conducts on nano-technology and long fiber thermoplastic technology. This has been a monetary success for the Division and resulted in 50 new members. Dale’s involvement with SPE goes back to his student days at Georgia Tech, where he served as Chair of the SPE Student Chapter. .
David A. Johnson
Member since 1985. Nominated by the Color & Appearance Division and affiliated with the Ohio Firelands Section. For his service to the Division, which he served as Chair and to the Section, which he served in a variety of roles. Dave served almost 10 years as newsletter editor for Ohio Firelands and five years as an SPE Newsletter Contest judge. As general operating co-chair for Color & Appearance, he oversaw the highest attendance (567) and the highest profit at a CAD RETEC (to date). He used this experience to chair a conference with the Section and the Vinyl Plastics Division that helped the Section add to their scholarship fund.
Roger C. Kipp
Member since 1988. Nominated by the Thermoforming Division and affiliated with the Susquehanna Section. For his service to the Division, which he has served as Chair, and the Society. As chair of the Thermoforming Conference in 1996, he initiated the move from table-top exhibits to a full trade show venue. Since that date, revenues of nearly $800,000 have been raised to support grants, scholarships, and donations to further the technical growth of thermoforming. Roger serves as a member of The SPE Foundation Executive Committee and Chair of the SPE Communications Committee.
Ronald F. Price
Member since 1988. Nominated by the Detroit Section and the Automotive Division. For his service to both the Section and the Division. Ron initiated the concept of an Automotive Global TPO Conference and served as conference co-chair the first year. He has continued to serve on this committee for nine years as co-chair and/or sponsorship chair and works on marketing for the event. This highly successful conference has raised approximately $50,000/year for Detroit Section educational programs. In addition to his service on both the Section and Division boards, Ron also sits on the Automotive Division’s Blue Ribbon judging panel for the Annual Automotive Innovation Awards.
Michael P. Thoomas
Member since 1983. Nominated by the Milwaukee Section and affiliated with the Injection Molding Division. For his long-time, dedicated service to the Section. Ron has served as social chair for the past 20 years, organizing golf outings and holiday parties each year that draw members from two states. He has served as chair of the Milwaukee/Ticona scholarship program for 11 years. He has been the Section’s student mentor for over 25 years. His varied service to the Section has helped to generate over $200,000 for the Section Education Foundation. This year, Mike is a member of the 2008 ANTEC General Operating Committee.
Dr. Donald E. Witenhafer
Member since 1987. Nominated by the Engineering Properties & Structure Division and affiliated with the Central Texas Section. For his service to the Division, which he served as Chair; to the Section; and to the Society, which he served as a member of the Executive Committee. As a member of the SPE Governance Task Force in 1996, Don originated the concept of having three members of the Executive Committee selected each year for a 3-year term. He has been a two-time Councilor for the Division, is working to revitalize EPSDIV conferences, and now sits on the Central Texas Section board.
