GRADUATING SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS HONORED

Each year, the Detroit Section honors graduating students who have received scholarships from the Section’s Education Fund. This year, ten Senior students were recognized at the February Technical Meeting in Sterling Heights, MI. They were from a variety of schools including Kettering University, Michigan State University, Ferris State University, and the University of Michigan. Also in the 2007-2008 year, nine scholarships were awarded to Juniors, seven to Sophomores, and one to a Freshman. This year’s awards totaled $41,500.

The photo shows (on the left) Jim Keeler, President-elect of the Detroit Section and a member of the Education Committee. Next to him in the front row is Professor Jacqueline El-Sayed, the SPE Student Chapter Faculty Advisor at Kettering University. Also shown in the photo are scholarship recipients Armando Gomez and Nicole Van Dongan who are the Presidents of the two co-op sections of the SPE Student Chapter at Kettering University. Other scholarship recipients in the photo include Jeffrey Deans of MSU, Genevieve Johnson of Kettering, and Christian Thomas of Kettering. Families and friends were also invited to the meeting.
