Abstract: |
How do
astronauts "go to the bathroom"?
Where does the oxygen come from that keeps
them alive? What happens if a space suit tears
or is punctured?
Plastics (polymer) technology provides the
means of preventing tears and holes (what
are the materials and how are they made and
assembled?) Inorganic chemistry makes oxygen
from water (how is it done?). The speaker
will tell us about the past, present and future
of US space suits and how Russian space suits
differ. How can an astronaut be kept alive
and functioning for long missions (Mars, International
Space Station)? What resources are utilized
for long missions? Come and see a space suit,
and hear about their development and use from
an expert who has a lot to do with making
life in space possible.
"Space" is limited so make your
reservation early.
All aboard the space suit express.
