Plastics
usage in medical devices, consumer electronics
and industrial systems is growing tremendously.
Plastics are used to replace metals, glass,
wood and other traditional materials because
of their light weight, ease of handling,
cost and mass production feasibility just
to name some advantages. Product design
and development of replacement components
is not a direct translation of the existing
part. Rather, considerations must be made
for different processing, material properties
and handling of plastics. In this talk,
various factors and issues associated with
clean and proper plastic part design of
injection molding components is illuminated.
New trends in medical plastic solutions
will also be discussed.
