Abstract:
Plasticizers are used primarily to soften PVC, but other significant applications also require their use. In this presentation, the basics of plasticizer technology, the types of plasticizers available, and plasticizer selection will be discussed. The discussion will then address specific performance examples: a plastisol sealant used in automotive applications; polysulfide sealants used by the insulating glass industry; and latex caulks. Types of plasticizers used in these applications will be discussed, as well as the effect of plasticizer selection on product performance. This e-Live presentation will in general address formulating with plasticizers.

Presenter:   William D. Arendt, Velsicol Chemical Corporation
Bill is a Research Fellow at Velsicol Chemical Corporation. He has been employed by Velsicol for more than 36 years, during which he has worked mostly in the support and development of plasticizers for vinyl and other application areas. He currently has 12 U.S. patents and numerous foreign patents. In addition, he has published many articles on plasticizers and related technologies, and has made presentations at several SPE ANTECs and Topical Conferences. Bill has been very active in SPE and is currently the Vinyl Plastics Division's Councilor.

An e-Live® Presentation is a simple and easy way to view a live presentation from the comfort of your home or office. All you need is a direct or dial-up Internet connection and a separate phone line to access the teleconference portion of the presentation. Approximately 2 days prior to the presentation you will receive an e-mail which will include the web address to log into and a teleconference phone number that you will need to call into the day of the presentation. You will simply log into the presentation and dial into the teleconference. There are many great features and conveniences to an e-Live Presentation. Think of the time and money you will save by not traveling to gain all the benefits of attending a presentation. There will be touchtone polling and question and answer. Each presentation is typically one hour in length.
