Polymer Physicist Opening, ExxonMobil, Annadale,NJ
Position Opening
Member of Technical Staff – Polymer Physicist
ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company has an immediate opening for a
Polymer Physicist at its Corporate Strategic Research Laboratory located in
Annandale, New Jersey.
The selected individual will be responsible for conducting original
research in experimental polymer physics and material science, using
advanced structural probes (e. g. x-ray, light, neutron scattering,
microcopy, spectroscopy, fractionation) , rheological and/or mechanical
property instruments (e. g., stress and strain rheometer, extensional
rheometer, tensile testing). He/she will combine experiments with
molecular theory and modeling from the molecular to macroscopic scales to
“write-the-rules” of polymer, polymer blend, and polymer composite
performance. This could include being able to understand and predict the
effects of processing on polymer structure and morphology developments.
The ultimate goal is to be able to predict the performance of polymer
products, blends and composites, from knowledge of their backbone
structure, phase blending, self-assembled meso-structure, and solid state
morphology.
Candidates should have the following qualifications:
• A Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical
Engineering, or a similar field with expertise in the physics of polymers;
postdoctoral or equivalent advanced experience is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated individual contribution to research in a
results-oriented team environment.
• A strong track record of external publications and presentations and
a desire to publish and participate in external technical meetings.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated expertise in the study of polymeric systems by rheology,
scattering, or other techniques.
Special consideration will be given to candidates who also possess the
following attributes:
• Experience in the theory and/or modeling of polymeric systems.
• Knowledge of polymerization or other applicable chemistries for
polymers.
• Strong knowledge in structural characterization of molecular and
polymer materials by chemical, optical, spectroscopic, thermo-mechanical
and other physical techniques.
ExxonMobil’s Corporate Research Laboratory is a facility of over 200
scientists and engineers involved in fundamental and process-oriented
research in diverse scientific disciplines related to ExxonMobil’s
Upstream, Downstream, Chemicals, and Corporate sectors. The Laboratory
features excellent support and analytical facilities, an international
staff, and is strongly integrated with the external scientific community.
Its location in pastoral western New Jersey provides excellent public
schools and convenient access to New York City and Philadelphia.
ExxonMobil offers an excellent working environment and a competitive
compensation and benefits package. Please submit your resume with cover
letter to our website at www.exxonmobil.com/ex and apply to Polymer
Physicist
