Post Doc opening in Colrado (could lead to a full time position in a start up co.)

Immediate Opening for a Post Doctoral Researcher

PolyNew is a vibrant and emerging technological innovator in the green
technology space. Our core competency is in environmentally benign plastic
materials made from renewable resources. PolyNew is presently located in
the Fitzsimmons Biosciences Park incubator (see http://www.fbbp.org/)
adjacent to the University of Colorado Health Sciences campus in Aurora,
Colorado. PolyNew is experiencing rapid growth and has an excellent
opportunity available for a self-motivated dynamic individual. It is
expected that a successful postdoctoral researcher would be renewed for a
second year or converted into a permanent position.

Primarily responsibilities include the following:

- Apply fundamentals of chemistry and engineering to design and fabricate Ecobionanocomposites.
- Propose experiments; design, build, troubleshoot, and maintain experimental facilities and pilot equipment.
- Develop experimental procedures and test plans.
- Organize, verify, and analyze experimental and modeling results.
- Suggest conclusions and make recommendations based on data and calculations.
- Document all work in a laboratory notebook, memos, and reports.
- Prepare technical reports, patent applications, and journal articles.

Minimum Qualifications. The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. in
Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a
closely related field with a strong journal publication record.

Desired Qualifications:

- Previous experience with bioplastics or biodegradable plastics
- Strong fundamentals in polymer science including familiarity with synthesis and characterization of polymers.
- Previous experience in tensile and impact testing of plastics, polymer rheology, thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, light scattering, FTIR, NMR, and other polymer materials testing methods.
- Strong fundamentals in transport phenomena, thermodynamics, and chemical kinetics.
- Hands-on experience with pilot scale plastics processing, particularly reactive extrusion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

The successful candidate will be comfortable in a hands-on experimental
environment, a resourceful problem solver, a team-player with excellent
communication skills, and capable of rapidly integrating observations and
results into new product and process designs. This position requires the
ability to lead project teams, complete multiple tasks effectively,
prioritize work, and manage projects to schedules and budgets in a
results-oriented environment.

The compensation package is highly competitive. The facilities are
state-of-the-art and the Rocky Mountain region offers unparalleled
opportunities for cultural and recreational activities. U.S. Citizenship or
permanent residency is preferred. PolyNew is an equal opportunity employer;
underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

Candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, list of publications, and
contact information for 5 references by email to President Laura O.
Hollingsworth at lohollingsworth@polynewinc.com.
