The SPE Foundation funds programs and projects that support the education of plastics and polymers worldwide.
The SPE Foundation offers numerous scholarships to students who have demonstrated or expressed an interest in the plastics industry. They must be majoring in or taking courses that would be beneficial to a career in the plastics industry. This would include, but is not limited to, plastics engineering, polymer science, chemistry, physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and industrial engineering. All applicants must be in good standing with their colleges. Financial need is considered for most scholarships.
Through educational grants programs, the SPE Foundation strives to provide students of all ages with the means to explore the science and technology of plastics and polymers, and for programs/projects at educational institutions that will benefit the members of the Society of Plastics Engineers, the plastics industry, and/or the general public.
Thermoforming Equipment Grant funds are available to schools/educational institutions seeking funding for the purchase of thermoforming equipment (forming, equipment, auxiliary equipment, retrofitted controls or ovens for existing machines, trimming equipment, and/or software). Grant requests over $10,000 will not be considered.
Foundation General Grants
The Foundation General Grants Program provides funding for programs such as exhibits at museums, attendance at educational training courses, books and equipment for classroom use, or the development of classroom-relevant educational programs.
The PlastiVan Program is a great way to WOW and excite young people about the science and the vast opportunities the plastics industry has to offer. The PlastiVan program travels to schools and companies throughout North America, educating people of all ages about plastics chemistry, history, processing, manufacturing, sustainability and applications.
The program is available for middle school, junior high school and high school students. The program educator visits one school per day, teaching approximately five classes, reaching 180-250 children each day.
