The Detroit Section of the Society of Plastics Engineers donated 30,000 toy vans to Detroit area charities continuing a holiday tradition first launched in 2000. American Plastic Toys Inc. of Walled Lake MI donated press time to make the vans which are decorated to mimic SPE’s PlastiVan mobile teaching unit. LyondellBasell Industries donated 12,000 pounds of resin and Maple Press of Troy MI provided the decorative stickers for the vans. Trucking firm E.L. Hollingsworth Co. of Flint MI provided transportation for the vans. This year, the toys will be distributed by the Lions Club, the Michigan Association of United Ways, and the Detroit Rescue Mission. Since the beginning the toy donation program, more than 360,000 "PlastiVans" have been given away.
