Southfield's Birney Middle School was the winner of the special award sponsored by the Detroit Section for the best "Incorporation of Plastic Materials" at the ESD Michigan Future City Competition. Birney also was the First Place winner out of 24 competing schools from throughout the state and will represent Michigan in the National Future City Competition in Washington, DC, during National Engineers Week.
