How to Make Your Time at ANTEC a Success
ANTEC is a large and sometimes overwhelming experience for people who have not figured out the best way navigate all the options and opportunities available. To make ANTEC a success for you, consider the following tips:
- Set some goals. Take a minute and really think about what needs to happen at ANTEC for it to be worth your time and money! Write down specific goals on why you are attending ANTEC. Some common examples include:
- I want to broaden my professional network with people who work in my industry area to enhance my own productivity and expertise.
- I want to be sure to meet the following customers or colleagues while I am there (make a list).
- I want to hear about new technologies in my area of the industry and evaluate whether or not they are right for my company.
- My company is struggling with a specific problem, and I want to seek out advice and direction from others with similar experience.
- I want to enhance my skills by taking a seminar while at ANTEC.
- I am unemployed or an independent consultant and want to seek out job opportunities.
- I’m new to the industry and need an introduction to the industry and would benefit from the fundamentals coursework offered at ANTEC to better position me in my new job.
- My job has changed and I need a refresher in my new area.
- I need develop management skills and perspectives. ANTEC offers me management sessions and training opportunities sponsored by the American Management Association.
- Plan your attack! The ANTEC program and exhibitor list is available online. Plan out each day to ensure that you are leaving yourself adequate time to do all the things you want. Don’t wait until you are there.
- Make appointments. If there are key people or exhibiting companies you want to be sure to meet, don’t leave it to chance. Use SPE’s online member directory or exhibitor listings to contact folks ahead of time and set up appointments.
- Take care of the little things early! Make sure you register well ahead of ANTEC, and make your hotel reservations and other travel arrangements accordingly. Nothing is worse than rushing at the last minute to find a hotel room, or arriving unsure how to get to the event from the airport. - Call SPE Ahead of Time or Stop By SPE’s Booth. If you have any questions or difficulties with registration, hotels or just knowing how to make the most of ANTEC, don’t fret. - Don’t forget to relax and have fun. ANTEC is full of opportunities for social networking, as well as professional networking. Don’t wear yourself out by over-scheduling your time. Build in time to enjoy the city, attend receptions, the SPE Fun Walk, the SPE Celebrates Banquet and other activities to make sure you return to work energized!
