PVC is a uniquely versatile resin with end uses from rigid window profiles to potable water pipe. This versatility is due to the use of a wide range of organic and inorganic additives. This presentation will introduce the essential additives including thermal stabilizers and lubricants as well as the non-essential additives including impact modifiers, process aids, and inorganic fillers for rigid PVC applications. An overview of each class of additives will be covered as well as selection criteria for each.
Robert Smith is the Technical Service Manager for PMC Organometallix focusing on developing organotin stabilizer and lubricant solutions for rigid PVC applications and has over ten years’ experience developing additives for rigid PVC applications. Bob participates in multiple technical associations including FGIA, PPFA, and ASTM, where he is the Chair of the Plastic Building Products Subcommittee and the D20.10.24 Section on Fracture and Fatigue. Bob is also the Secretary of the Lehigh Valley SPE Section.
Bob holds a degree in Material Science and Engineering from Penn State University and is a few months away from finishing his master’s degree in Polymer Science at Lehigh University.
