Using the SPE Logo
The use of the Society name and logo is restricted by SPE Bylaw B-4: “The name, abbreviation or [logo] of the Society shall not be used or referred to by any member in any advertisement or commercial exploitation of the member, the member’s employer or its products.” This means that members cannot use the logo on their business cards, letterhead, emails, or in written or electronic presentations (such as conference papers). |

Requirements for using the SPE logo
include the following:
- For multicolor use, the background
color for the logo is Pantone 200U (for
uncoated paper) or 201C (for coated paper),
surrounded by a white border within a
black border. The lettering is white with
a black border. No other colors are
acceptable.
- PMS Textile Conversions are as follows:
19-1664 TC (textile cotton)
19-1763 TPC (textile paper)
- For black-and-white use, the background
color is black with white lettering surrounded
by a white border within a black border.
The lettering is white.
- For stationery use, the minimum height
of the logo is 3/4 inch (2 cm). The width
must be proportional to the height, as
in the examples above; no stretching or
shrinking.
- For letterhead and advertising materials,
the height of the logo should be no less
than 1/15th and no more than 1/10th the
height of the page on which it appears.
Example: On a page 11 inches (28 cm) in
height, the logo is at least 3/4 inch
(2 cm) in height and at most 1.1 inch
(2.8 cm) in height. (As above, the width
of the logo must be proportional to the
height.)
- The registered trademark symbol ®
is adjacent to the SPE logo.
- The words “Society of Plastics
Engineers” in title case (as shown
here, i.e., upper and lower case) are
adjacent to the logo, either to the left
or the right. Minimum 8 points. Note:
Do not use a tag line, such as “The
International Plastics Society.”
- Do not change the form of the logo.
Do not combine or use the logo with other
design elements, logos, or devices.
The following uses for the trademark
are not allowed:
- Do not change the form of the logo.
- Do not combine or use the logo with
other design elements, logos or devices,
unless the combined mark has received
written approval for use from the SPE's
Executive Director.
- Copies of the written documentation
of permissions granted for the use of
all SPE logo will be maintained at SPE
Headquarters.
- SPE (short for Society of Plastics-not
"Plastic"--Engineers) is also
a trade name. Using the SPE trade name
requires the following:
- Use all capital letters without
periods between the letters (e.g.
SPE)· Do not use the trade
name "SPE" as part of other
words such as SPEcial, unless the
revised mark has received written
approval for use from SPE's Executive
Director.
- Define SPE the first time it is
used.
