The theme of this course is to provide a balanced overview of the challenges and possibilities of manufacturing composites of thermoplastic polymers and carbon nanotubes. Topics that will be covered in some detail in this course are: an introduction to carbon nanotubes, how to disperse carbon nanotubes in polymers as well as strategies to improve dispersibilty, and the effect nanotubes can have on thermoplastic polymers. Likely applications of carbon nanotubes in thermoplastic polymers will also be highlighted. This course is designed to be useful for the compounder who wants to find out just what might happen with nanotubes in polymers, as well as the researcher who is thinking about or already working with carbon nanotubes.
