Casting Eyeglasses
Opthalmic lenses are made by casting. A polymerizable lens material is placed on a concave surface of a lens mold section. Once filled, a second mold section is placed on top of the first mold section to form a lens shaped cavity containing the lens precursor material. The lens precursor material is cured for example, by applying heat or light. The lens is unfinished requiring finishing. (RDC 8/5/2010) Darnton, Goodenough and Rogers, US Patent 7,731,873, 6/8/2010

Methods relating to molding optical lenses
Keita and Boryslawski of Essilor International, France have developed a method for rapidly filling vertical lens molds prior to curing. The molds are assempled and sealed. The seal is punctured and the monomer mixture quickly injected into the mold. (RDC 2/15/2011)
