Mixing is the dispersing of different materials in another material and is the basis of compounding whether it be liquids, melts, powders or impregnation.  (RDC, 7/27/2008)

Liquid agitation in which the liquid is but into motion by shaking or stirring.  This can be an effective method for mixing or even modifying materials.  Agitation lends itself to continuous  flow treatment systems in which the liquid is treated while continuously moving through the system. (RDC 6/25/2010)

Liquid agitation is static or dynamic.  In static agitation, in which agitation is caused by the flow parameters of the one or more liquid components through a column.  This can be achieved by directing the flow through stationary structures, such as  helical vanes or other structures that disrupt and, even, induce turbulence.   Dynamic agitation, on the other-hand is caused by moving, e.g., rotating, oscillating, vibrating structures such as  vanes and fan blades. Mixing device

Ruscheweyh, Leser and Kaatz  of Balcke-Durr, Germany, developeda mixing method for mixing a fluid flowing through the flow channel in a main direction of flow using mixer disks.  The mixer disks are arranged in rows running across the main direction of flow. (RDC 12/5/2011)

Mixer having a centrally disposed helical or anchor agitator and eccentrically disposed screw or blade agitator

Brod, Kohler and Rose of Bayer, Germany developeda mixer having improved axial and radial mixing with good mixing times even during large viscosity changes.  It, consists of a housing with a central helical or anchor agitator and an eccentric screw or blade agitator enabling a much shorter mixing time as compared to a mixer having only a helical agitator.
