Natural polymers are those polymers formed by living systems.  There nearly an unlimited different natural polymers considering the variety of living things.  These polymers range from cellulose and lignin to DNA the language of life.  They range from the very large such a linseed oil forming  the network polymer in many paints to oligomers found in blood.  The most important about these material is they are sustainable in that they can be formed indefinitely from the specific living organism as long there are the right conditions for that organism to flourish.  Another interesting feature is the adaptability of these organisms.  Very likely with some effort certain organisms can be developed to produce nearly any kind of desired polymer.  This gives man a tremendous power to adapt and solve materials problems.  (RDC 12/14/2010)
