PROCESSING AND PERFORMANCE OF HDPE POLYMER BLENDS INCLUDING POST CONSUMER RECYCLED HDPE

Blends of recycled high density polyethylene (HDPE) were prepared to obtain specific mechanical properties and MFI.  The milk bottle flake (bfHDPE) may be added to recycled HDPE (rHDPE) to increase the MFI. The viscosity of the bfHDPE was lower than that of the rHDPE at low shear rates and had less shear thinning properties than the rHDPE. The addition of bfHDPE to rHDPE can be used to increase the mechanical properties due to the increased levels of crystallinity.
