Starch /Cotton Composites
Effect of Cotton Fiber Contents and Lengths on Properties of Thermoplastic Starch Composites Prepared from Rice and Waxy Rice Starches
(274-282) Journal of Polymers and the Environment 19 #1 (2011)
Prachayawarakorn, Ruttanabus and Boonsom of King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Thailand, prepared biodegradable, thermoplastic starch (TPS) using rice (TPRS) and waxy rice (TPWRS) starches and reinforced them with cotton fiber. Stress at maximum load and Young’s modulus of both TPRS and TPWRS increased significantly with the addition of the cotton fiber. Water absorption decreased by the use of the cotton fibers.
