Purpose & Overview
This seminar covers the key points and a few tricks of the trade in modern thermoplastic formulation and compounding. Formulation techniques include several DOE (design of experiment) methods as well as knowledge-based approaches. The compounding includes processing and materials and how the two can interact to upgrade properties while reducing costs. In all cases, cost-effective methods will be emphasized.

Who Should Attend
This is a broad-based technical course so that persons who are new to compounding will receive basic training, while experienced compounders will broaden their knowledge base of polymers, processing, and additives. Marketing and business persons can gain an understanding about the underlying factors of thermoplastic-compound cost, time, and process machines to help them realize more profit from their business-related activities.

Instructor: Ernest A. Coleman
Ernest A. Coleman has formulated and compounded thermoplastic materials for major plastics companies (DuPont, Union Carbide, etc., he has worked for custom compounders (Fiberfil) and concentrate houses (Wilson Color), he has worked with custom compounders, and he has consulted for many plastics and additives companies. Dr. Coleman has given plastics seminars for over 30 years, and has been an international seminar leader for about 20 years. He is an Honored Fellow of SPE and serves on the Publications Committee.
