SPE and IoPP Launch Plastics in Food Packaging: The Virtual Edition

Speakers Announced for October Event

DANBURY, CT—August 31, 2020: SPE and the Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) recently announced they are joining together to launch Plastics in Food Packaging: The Virtual Edition. This virtual event will take place October 14-15 and will include insights on sustainability, how plastics can help ensure food safety, and plastics materials used in a range of styles from bottles and tubes to flexible packaging and more. Food packaging innovations expected in the coming years will also be addressed.

“This joint event will examine polymers and plastics from a food packaging perspective,” said Jim George, IoPP’s Director of Education. “As an educational event, it is our mutual purpose to provide attendees with a wealth of information about the numerous food packaging functions where plastics plays a key part.”

Plastics in Food Packaging: The Virtual Edition will feature speakers focused on innovations in the uses of plastics and polymers with an emphasis on new technologies and manufacturing trends, as well as how the circular economy and sustainability are fundamental to the development of food packaging and its value chain.

“The synergies between plastics and packaging are almost too high to count,” said Patrick Farrey, SPE’s CEO. “By bringing plastics and packaging experts together, Plastics in Food Packaging: The Virtual Edition will offer deeper understanding the role plastics plays in the food packaging ecosystem.”

Plastics in Food Packaging: The Virtual Edition speakers include:

  • Gang Sun, Professor, University of California, Davis
  • Rory Wolf, Business Unit Manager, Pillar Technologies
