Snap Cure Fire Resistant Resin for Low-Cost Aircraft Interiors

Trimer Technologies has developed a high-performance thermosetting infusion resin that provides cure times as fast as 30 seconds while achieving the mechanical properties of 350 F (177 C) cured epoxies with a Tg greater than most BMIs without a post cure. While enabling a fast cure, the system offers a long gel time to enable infusion of large components and greatly exceeds FAA fire resistance standards for aircraft interiors. This presentation will focus on the resin properties and processing for lower cost interiors as well as low cycle time composites for eVTOL.

About the Speaker

Dr. Sodano is the President of Trimer Technologies, LLC which develops high performance polymers to enable very low cycle time. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech in 2005, his M.S. in 2003 and his B.S in 2002 also from Virginia Tech. He is a Professor in the Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Michigan with appointments in Macromolecular Science and Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering. He has published 269 technical articles (5 book chapters, 139 refereed journals published or submitted and 125 proceedings) with his work being cited more than 18,000 times. He is a Fellow of ASME and an Associate Fellow of AIAA.
