Aerospace Industry Outlook: Post COVID-19 Scenarios for the Supply Chain

Abstract

We will begin with a comparison of the current industry downturn with the earlier ones in the past couple of decades. How resilient is the supply chain today given the lessons learned from 2001 and 2008 downturns? It will be instructive to compare the secular trends in aerospace manufacturing pre and post COVID-19. We will briefly analyze aerospace material supply chain scenarios for the latter with an emphasis on composite demand. What trends will accelerate? Next, we will illustrate operational practices, including the use of enabling technologies (like Additive Manufacturing, IoT and Data Analytics), that manufacturers can count on at times like this.

About the Speaker

Vivek founded the boutique consulting firm – Advisory Aerospace OSC - after gaining 25 years of deep aerospace experience in academia, at an engine OEM, at an airframe OEM, and in consulting. Advisory Aerospace OSC enables

  1. transformations (cost reduction, cash flow and operational performance improvements) and
  2. transactions (market and operations due diligence, integration and synergy realization).

We provide our clients with exceptional value through targeted use of technologies, the operational expertise of our senior aerospace executives, combined with the analytical rigor of our frameworks. Our Affordable 4.0™ toolkit is a high ROI alternative to much touted industrie 4.0 solutions.

Vivek’s recent engagements have included blue chip clients like Lockheed Martin, Moog, Cathay Pacific and several Private Equity & Mid-market Manufacturing firms. He recently led the transformation of a general aviation OEM as its President & CEO. Prior to that, he was an executive officer and an aerospace practice leader at ICF Consulting. He also served as a General Manager and a Chief Engineer at Pratt & Whitney.

He earned his PhD at the University of Cambridge in aerospace engineering and applied mathematics and conducted his post-doctoral research at Cornell University.
