Alejandro Müller es Ingeniero de Materiales (Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB), Caracas, Venezuela), con un M.Sc. en Química (IVIC, Caracas, Venezuela) y un Ph.D. en Física (de la Universidad de Bristol, Reino Unido). Fue profesor del Departamento de Ciencia de los Materiales de la USB desde 1983 a 2013. Desde septiembre de 2013, Alejandro Müller es Profesor de Investigación IKERBASQUE (Fundación Vasca para la Ciencia) en POLYMAT y en el Departamento de Ciencia y Tecnología de Polímeros, Facultad de Química, Universidad del País Vasco UPV/EHU en Donostia-San Sebastián, España. Profesor emérito de la Universidad Simón Bolívar y Miembro Correspondiente de la Academia de Ingeniería y del Hábitat de Venezuela. Es coautor de más de 500 publicaciones, de las cuales 350 han sido publicadas en revistas internacionales de revisión por pares (indexadas en el SCI). Ha sido director de 90 tesis de pregrado y 60 tesis de posgrado (tanto M.Sc. y Ph.D.). Ha ganado varios premios en Venezuela, incluido el Lorenzo Mendoza Fleury, Premio Polar de ciencias básicas. En 2011 recibió el "Premio internacional de investigación de polímeros Paul J. Flory". El profesor Müller ha dado más de 80 conferencias magistrales, plenarias e invitadas en más de 25 países de todo el mundo. Ha logrado un índice h de 55 y alrededor de 10000 citas a sus publicaciones según SCOPUS. Sus campos de interés incluyen: morfología, nucleación, cristalización y cinética de cristalización de materiales semicristalinos y multifásicos (en particular mezclas de polímeros, copolímeros de bloque, biopolímeros y nanocompuestos), reología. Es editor de la revista POLYMER (Elsevier), IF (2018): 3.771 (Q1). Dirige el grupo de investigación "Advanced Multiphasic Polymers" en POLYMAT.
Alejandro Müller is a professor at the Materials Science Department of Simón Bolívar University in Caracas, Venezuela, where he performed research and taught Polymer Courses.
Since September 2013 he holds an IKERBASQUE (Basque Foundation for Science) Research Professorship at The Institute for Polymer Materials (POLYMAT) and the Polymer Science and Technology Department, Faculty of Chemistry, University of the Basque Country UPV/EHU in Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain.
He is also an Emeritus Professor from Simón Bolívar University (USB) and Editor for POLYMER (Elsevier), IF (2018): 3.771 (Q1), in the joint areas of Polymer Physics and Physical Chemistry. He is a Corresponding Member of the “Academia Nacional de la Ingeniería y del Hábitat de Venezuela (ANIH)" or National Academy of Engineering and Habitat.
He has co-authored more than 500 publications from which more than 350 have been published in international peer-review journals (indexed in the SCI, most of them in Q1 journals). He has tutored 90 B.Sc. theses, 57 M.Sc., and 22 Ph.D. theses. He has won several awards in Venezuela, including the Lorenzo Mendoza Fleury, Polar Prize for basic science. In 2011 he received the international "Paul J. Flory Polymer Research Prize." Prof. Müller has given more than 85 keynotes, plenary, and invited lectures in more than 25 countries around the world. He heads the Advanced Multiphasic Polymers Group at POLYMAT and has participated in 20 research projects in the last four years.
He has achieved an h index of 61 and 12000+ citations to his publications (according to Google Scholar Citations). His fields of interests include morphology, nucleation, crystallization and crystallization kinetics of semi-crystalline materials and multiphasic materials (in particular polymer blends, block copolymers, biopolymers, and nano-composites), polymer solution rheology and structured fluids.
