SPE Journal Welcomes New Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Vinyl & Additive Technology

Dr. Prithu Mukhopadhyay is the new editor-in-chief of the Journal of Vinyl & Additive Technology (JVAT). He assumed his role on May 1, 2020. He succeeds Randy Brown, who served as the editor of the journal since 2015.

Brown stepped in as the editor in 2015 and oversaw the recent growth of the journal. The impact factor of JVAT increased from 0.86 in 2014 to 1.22 in 2015, 1.56 in 2016, 1.13 in 2017, and 1.29 in 2018. The number of total cites of JVAT articles also grew 44 percent during his tenure. We all are very thankful to Brown for stepping in at a difficult time and for leading the journal to its current stature.

Dr. Mukhopadhyay will focus on increasing the number of additive articles. Additionally, he will explore opportunities for growth of the journal beyond its current four issues per year. He comes to JVAT with a long and illustrious career in the polymer industries. He led SPE’s New Technologies committee for many years and was an active volunteer within several of SPE’s divisions. “He is well connected with the research landscape of polymer additives and vinyl polymers,” says Dr. Sadhan Jana, executive editor of all the SPE journals. “We are excited for the growth of JVAT under his leadership.”

JVAT identifies that additive technologies are key to the vigor and growth of plastics industry. JVAT is poised to be the platform for publication of authoritative work in this important area of research. Interests in additive technologies evolve around certain desired attributes of polymer products, such as aging characteristics; appearance and color; nucleation; mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties; flammability and smoke suppression; antimicrobial activities; antifogging characteristics; and oxidative stability or biodegradability. JVAT is also interested in publishing original articles that address regulatory aspects of additives in the context of recent trends in circular economy of polymer products.
