Conductive Polymers (Electronics Packaging)

Abstract

Nowaday, plastics are widely used to replace metal in various applications thanks to their lightweight, ease to process or resistance to corrosion among many other features but they lack electrical conductivity. In parallel, static electricity build-up by tribocharging occurs every day in non-ESD safe environments. That leads to unwanted but potentially damaging electrostatic discharges if there is no control on how to handle them. In this presentation, we will talk about the development of conductive concentrates used to make conductive plastics like extruded sheets which are widely used in electronics packaging. The concept of using conductive concentrates has been introduced by Cabot 15 years ago and has now been widely adopted by converters looking for greater flexibility, customization, sustainable solutions, and lower cost-in-use.

About the Speaker

Jean-Michel Poncelet holds a BSc in Chemistry from the Université Catholique de Louvain and a Master in Management with a specialized option in general management from the HEC Liège. He is no stranger to the masterbatch and conductive compounds world since he works since 2000 at Cabot Specialty Compounds. He started in the Application Development Center until 2006 when he moved to the role of Technical Sales Manager in charge of a wide area covering North Africa, Turkey, Spain, Italy and Portugal. He is currently Business Development Manager in charge of the Cabelec® conductive compounds and concentrates product line.
