Braskem and SPE Foundation’s PlastiVan® Program Celebrate 12 Years of Partnership in Sustainable Plastics Education

Braskem and SPE Foundation’s PlastiVan® Program Celebrate 12 Years of Partnership in Sustainable Plastics Education

Braskem, a leading global producer of biopolymers, has reaffirmed its commitment to the SPE Foundation’s PlastiVan® program for the twelfth consecutive year, continuing a partnership that inspires and educates students across the United States about plastics, sustainability, and the vast opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

Over the past eight years, Braskem has become one of the program’s largest supporters, helping the PlastiVan® program reach 16,000+ students annually. The 2025 SPE Foundation Impact Report will highlight the program’s reach and effectiveness, with Braskem’s contributions playing a central role in advancing sustainable education.

Through engaging classroom sessions, science fairs, and career-focused events, PlastiVan® connects students with real-world applications of polymer science—from medicine and transportation to sports, consumer goods, electronics, and packaging. The program also addresses critical sustainability topics, including biopolymers, mechanical recycling, and renewable feedstocks.

Key areas of Braskem’s support include:

  • Curriculum Development: Ensuring students receive the latest insights on sustainability and materials science.
  • Professional Development: Supporting training for PlastiVan® educators, including scientists and engineers.
  • Materials & Supplies: Providing resources for hands-on learning.
  • STEM Outreach: Expanding the program’s presence at science and career fairs nationwide.

“At Braskem, we believe in empowering the next generation to learn how plastics can be part of a sustainable solution,” said Stacy Torpey, NAMEA Communications Director (NAM, EU, Asia), at Braskem. “Our partnership with the SPE Foundation’s PlastiVan® program reflects our commitment to education and to shaping a future where sustainable materials play a central role in improving everyday life.”

Braskem’s commitment to sustainable solutions will continue to create meaningful opportunities for collaboration with PlastiVan®,  bringing Positive Plastics Education™ to local schools and communities, strengthening the connection between innovation, sustainability, and education.

“The ongoing support from Braskem allows us to deliver high-quality, hands-on STEM education to students nationwide,” said Eve Vitale, Chief Executive, SPE Foundation. “This partnership demonstrates how industry leaders and nonprofits can work together to inspire curiosity, promote sustainability, and prepare young people for meaningful careers in science and engineering.”
