The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) has appointed Dr. Everson Kandare as Editor of its technical journal, Polymer Composites. Polymer Composites is the engineering and scientific journal serving the fields of reinforced plastics and polymer composites and publishes peer-reviewed articles on research, production, processing, and applications of composite materials. Polymer Composites emphasizes the science and technology of composite materials, including fibrous and particulate reinforcements in polymeric and natural composites, such as plants and biological materials when primarily intended for load-bearing applications.  

Dr. Kandare brings more than two decades of academic and research experience to the role. He is a Professor of Composite Materials and Structures in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at RMIT University, Melbourne, and is internationally recognized for his contributions to advanced composite materials, fire-safe structural systems, and sustainable manufacturing technologies.

After earning his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Marquette University in 2006, Dr. Kandare served as an EPSRC Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Bolton, UK, where his research focused on fire retardancy in fiber-reinforced polymer composites. Since joining RMIT in 2009, he has led major collaborative research programs with defense and industry partners, including the Advanced Composites Structures Cooperative Research Centre, the Australian Defence Science and Technology Group, and the US Office of Naval Research.

Currently, Dr. Kandare serves as an Executive Member of the Australian Composites Manufacturing Cooperative Research Centre (ACM-CRC), where he leads the Education and Training Program, and as Chair of the Advanced Composite Structures Research Cluster at RMIT’s School of Engineering. He has authored more than 130 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers spanning topics such as multifunctional composite materials, additive and composite manufacturing, fire retardancy, and regenerative material systems.

Dr. Sadhan C. Jana, Executive Editor of all SPE Journals, welcomed the appointment, noting the alignment between Dr. Kandare’s expertise and the journal’s mission. “Dr. Kandare’s connections and experience will be invaluable in attracting high-quality submissions and special issues from leading researchers worldwide,” said Jana.
