The Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Foundation has awarded $304,000 in scholarships to 81 students worldwide, advancing its mission to support the next generation of plastics professionals. Students represent 45 universities, more than 32 degree programs, and five countries across four continents—including 23 U.S. states.
The scholarships span all levels of education—from trade and two-year degrees to Ph.D. candidates—and are designed to nurture talent and encourage careers in plastics and polymer science.
“The SPE Foundation works with many of its chapters, individuals, and other nonprofit organizations to award scholarships, but many deserving individuals still go without a scholarship due to a lack of funds,” said Eve Vitale, Executive Director of the SPE Foundation. “We are proud to support scholars across the globe who are shaping the future of plastics. Ours is a global industry with a close-knit spirit, and we want students pursuing careers in plastics to feel that connection and encouragement. I invite you to join us in ensuring a strong, innovative workforce for years to come.”
Plastics Hall of Fame Expands Scholarship Impact
In 2025, the Plastics Hall of Fame introduced six new scholarships totaling $30,000, supporting students in programs including Mechanical Engineering, Sustainability, Plastics Engineering Technology, and Engineering Management.
“The Plastics Hall of Fame scholarships honor students who view plastics as a force for good—innovating with purpose, embracing the material’s role in solving global challenges, and advancing a future aligned with our mission and vision,” said Maureen Steinwall, PhD, President of the Plastics Hall of Fame.
Industry Partnerships Fuel Growth
Key industry partners continue to expand the Foundation’s impact.
DuPont™ Tedlar®, a long-time supporter of Positive Plastics Education™ through PlastiVan® and Girl Scout outreach, awarded scholarships for the third consecutive year.
“Supporting young STEM scholars fosters the next generation of scientists and thinkers,” said Matt Urfali, VP of Sales & Marketing at DuPont™ Tedlar®. “Our partnership with the SPE Foundation reflects our commitment to continual improvement and learning. We look forward to seeing what these students accomplish—and may even see them working on Tedlar® one day!”
The Plastics Pioneers Association (PPA) awarded 25 scholarships worth $75,000 through the SPE Foundation this year, continuing a partnership that since 2021 has significantly expanded both the number and value of scholarships available.
A Decade of Growth
Over the past decade, the SPE Foundation’s scholarship program has grown from $88,250 to $304,000—an increase of nearly 250%. This trajectory reflects the industry’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of plastics professionals and the dedication of donors who wish to leave a legacy through named or memorial scholarships.
