Connecting Recyclable Packaging with Recycling to Build a True Circular Economy for Plastics 

Abstract: TC Transcontinental Packaging invites CPGs and brand owners to take the first step towards recycle-ready solutions and make it part of their brand. During this session, we will speak about how our customers can achieve their sustainability commitment by redesigning and commercializing cost effective, recyclable packaging solutions without compromising on aesthetics or performance. Also, how does it connect to our recycling activities in order to accelerate the development of packaging made from recycled content and continue building a true circular economy for plastics. 

Rebecca Casey, Senior Vice President, Strategy & Marketing, TC Transcontinental Packaging

Biography: Rebecca Casey is the Senior Vice President, Marketing and Strategy at TC Transcontinental Packaging.  She leads the team responsible for setting and driving branding, ideation, product management and strategy for the packaging sector. Over her twenty-year career, Rebecca worked with consumer product companies, including P&G, Kellogg, ConAgra, Smithfield, Heinz, and others, designing packages to protect product, support brand messaging, and meet consumer’s needs. Her expertise lies in translating consumer trends and market insights into product innovation, marketing, and strategic business developments. Rebecca is passionate about identifying how a package communicates the product and brand to its consumer- and how creating the perfect packaging experience can transform the way people engage, shop, and buy. Rebecca was born and raised in central Illinois. She has a BS in Chemistry from the University of Illinois and an MBA from Northern Illinois University in Marketing.

Trent Thibert, Vice President of Sales, Chewters Chocolates

Biography: Born in Gillam Manitoba, Trent has over 26 years in CPG Sales & Sales Management. In the early years, valuable experience was gained working with major CPG brands Wrigley’s, Nestle Waters and the leading BC Organic Foods Company, Happy Planet Foods. 14 years prior to Chewters Chocolates, Trent was the managing partner of a local Vancouver Chocolate Company that created products for mid brands all over Canada and the USA including Costco. During that tenure, Trent led numerous innovations in sustainability from the first chocolate to use organic coconut palm sugar to compostable flow wrap packaging and finally innovating the most sustainable packaged chocolate products in the world featuring bagasse paperboard packaging. After selling the chocolate company to an Asian investment group, Trent co-founded a Bagasse packaging company for CPG and Foodservice Industry.

In 2020, Trent became the VP of Sales for North America, leading a team of 5 Sales Directors and several Broker Sales teams throughout Canada and USA. From day 1, Trent has led the sustainability initiative to improve the sustainability of its current packaging and become a leader in sustainable packaging.
