Process to Manufacture a Mono-Material Sports Helmet by Graded Foaming Technology

Abstract: In this work an innovative process, based on the topology optimization approach and the graded foaming technology, is applied to the production of a mono-material and multi-layered sports helmet. The case of a bike helmet for e-mobility having a stiff shell gradually turning into a soft liner is described.

Biography: Fabrizio Errichiello has worked in the polymer foaming research field since 2018. He is an R&D engineer of Materias S.r.l., an early stage combined accelerator for innovative materials-based startup, and has helped in enriching the company patent portfolio by developing an innovative technology based on the polymer gas foaming process. As part of his research job, Fabrizio has worked hard to develop an industrial process to manufacture products made by functional and mono-material multi-graded plastic foams. He resides in Naples (Italy) and enjoys sports, travelling and test himself with new challenges.
